Index-based Diesel Surcharge

The price of crude oil has been rising dramatically for many years. Future developments are difficult to predict. However, the current price level does not appear to mark the end of the price spiral. Taking the current crude oil prices into account in our price calculations is essential, as we can only partially offset these cost increases through rationalisation measures.

For this reason, KG Bursped Speditions-G.m.b.H. & Co. decided in June 2008 to levy a separately itemised surcharge that is variably based on changes in the price of diesel and is charged as a percentage of the net freight (including surcharges).

The index-based diesel surcharge of KG Bursped Speditions-G.m.b.H. & Co. is calculated on the basis of the “Consumer Price Index for Germany” of the Federal Statistical Office, Wiesbaden. The consumer price index is revised at regular intervals and converted to a new base year. With the publication of the reporting month January 2023, the changeover was made from the previous base year 2015 to the base year 2020.

The calculation of the diesel surcharge is based on the index value of 69.2 points. The diesel surcharge also changes depending on the development of this index. Accordingly, the diesel surcharge will fall to 0% if the base value of 69.2 points is reached again.

Only the additional costs caused by the diesel price increase are passed on via the index-based diesel surcharge. A diesel price increase of 10 cents causes additional costs of approx. 1.83% for KG Bursped Speditions-GmbH & Co. KG Bursped Speditions-GmbH & Co. additional costs of approx. 1.83% and is reflected in an index change of approx. 9.45 points at the Federal Statistical Office. Accordingly, a diesel surcharge of 0.1936% is levied for every one-point increase in the diesel price index.

The consumer price indices are published monthly by the Federal Statistical Office. The new diesel surcharge is calculated from the day of publication and is then valid from the 1st of the following month. You can find out about the current surcharge at any time here.
